Wadi Rum offers many sites of natural beauty and historical interest. The most notable attractions include Lawrence’s Spring where Lawrence of Arabia is said to have bathed during the Arab Revolt. Khazali Canyon is a deep fissure containing many ancient rock inscriptions. There are spectacular sunset viewing points both in winter and summer. Large sand dunes piled against the mountains provide scenic views of the desert landscape and plants adapted to desert conditions. Rock Bridge is a striking natural rock arch with panoramic views. Burrah Canyon is a deep canyon between dramatic mountains containing areas of sand. The Alameleh Inscriptions showcase ancient rock drawings of camels and wildlife. The Seven Pillars of Wisdom landmark is named after T.E. Lawrence’s famous book. The Siq Um Tawaqi canyon contains a rock carving of Lawrence’s head. Anfashieh mountain has numerous ancient inscriptions as well as drawings of animals and camel caravans. The Nabatean Temple of Aretas was used by the Nabateans to worship the goddess Allat.
